you can copy something and use a clock or a shell bultin time or have a look
at spray(8) which sends out packets to benchmark networks or also at
sysstat(1) which provides with inet.ip some statistics about
networkconnections.

By hitting ? in sysstat you'll get a list of modules which can be loaded
with ":module" e.g. :netstat
