You could do a couple things:
Easy - get a bigger drive.  My last move, I tossed everything less
than 500MB, including several 424MBs.  Ask around, it may be free.

OR:
Install in one large partition and take a look.  X won't likely
fit on a 170MB partition (30MB swap).

Then du /var /usr  and see what you get and you COULD reinstall.
I use > 200MB for var, and have enjoyed not dealing with 200MB
drives for a long long time.
