I have an 8139 on my notebook. It starts up and works fine.

I have my install notes here...
http://home.gate.net/~saider/NetBSD/PCG_FXA32/NetBSD_Install_Log.html

The drivers are in there. you may need to edit your config file
and rebuild, although the stock kernels seem to work OK for me.

The device should show up as "rtk0" in dmesg. Here's mine...

rtk0 at pci0 dev 16 function 0: RealTek 8139 10/100BaseTX
rtk0: interrupting at irq 10
rtk0: Ethernet address 08:00:46:xx:xx:xx
