Thanks for the reply Jeremy.  If you update your lynx pkgsrc and
rebuild then you should be right, since I mailed that message I had
one of the other NetBSD developers point the bug out to me.  It is, in
fact, a lynx bug, it is not calling the curses endwin() function in
certain circumstances so the terminal setting are not being restored.
I have generated a patch for the problem that is in the lynx pkgsrc
(both lynx and lynx-current).  I have also reported the problem to the
lynx maintainers.  So, as I said before, update your pkgsrc, rebuild
and you should be running fine.  If not, please let me know.
