The problem is that you're playing around with things that will break
half the universe, and no-one really understands why you'd want to do
that instead of something more constructive.

If you change the system name from NetBSD then lots of software that
knows how to build itself on netbsd is going to stop working, and you're
going to have to teach it how to build on whatever you are calling it.

Similarly, if you change the version number down, then lots of things wil=
l
stop working (well, enough things) because they don't believe that a syst=
em
that old has many useful features. On the other hand, if you make it big=
ger,
then in a year or so, when NetBSD has gone from 1.6 to 1.7 or 1.8, but yo=
u're
yet to upgrade, something that requires 1.8 features will look at your
system and say "bigger than 1.8 must be OK", but then fail to work.

Those identifiers aren't just there to be printed - the printing is
just a frill (you can certainly change that if you want, but you'll learn=

more, and better, if you go find the places to change yourself, rather
than asking here).
