Well, if monotype-* fonts could work fine, you don't need the aliasmonotype-*
fonts. They are just the alias of monotype-*.
Do you still have problem with monotype-* fonts?

Oh, too bad. Maybe there are too many fonts. :>

Oops, my fault. ;)
Could you please try again with following steps?
1. % cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/ ; grep '*onotype' fonts.scale
   - To find out the TTF name, like this:
   ???.ttf -monotype-*...
2. ttfinfo ???.ttf

I also don't know much about this, but I could tell something:
As I say above, you don't need the fonts.alias if you could use your fonts
with many size. (It seems only necessary for Eastern fonts.)
