i placed my license in ~/.vmware/license but it says valid license not found. do i need a special line in my license file? i just pasted my key

It is likely that it will have to be put in root's home directory, as you
must run VMWARE as root.  The license itself should be a text file with
about 13 lines in it, containing various bits of information.
