Thanks for replying. Both

I am pretty new at this stuff so forgive me.

I have installed and then untarred the kern-laptop gz file, and replaced =
the /netbsd file.

Now when I boot up it does find a PCMCIA card but hangs at a prompt db>

The kernel for the latest release of NetBSD (1.5.2) does support it.
If you look at the bootup output, using dmesg, you should see it listed =
as

ep0 at pcmcia0

or somesuch
