Heh, perfectly valid question :-). I'm currently using a snapshot 
kernel, which is being reported as GENERIC. 
/usr/src/sys/arch/alpha/conf/GENERIC does have

file-system     MSDOSFS         # MS-DOS-compatible file system

uncommented, so it should be there. Tomorrow, I'll compile a new 
kernel to be sure.
