Are you mounting procfs with the linux option enabled? I've the
following line in my /etc/fstab file:

/proc /proc procfs rw,-olinux

Remember: vmware is a linux binary package that relies on certain Linux
functionlities and hence this needs to be taken into consideration
when installing it on NetBSD.
