If you use xdm etc., edit/create .xsession. Else it's .xinitrc.
You want to start a few programs there, than the desktop/window manager.
E.g. for KDE this looks like:

	xterm &
	startkde

Note that there's a & behind all except the last entry.
This should be documented somewhere in generic X docs, it's not
NetBSD specific.
