Subject: correct entry in /etc/ttys for tty01 attached to ups

I have an ups attached by cable to com1 (Serial Port B). Previously
it was hardwired to com0, and in /etc/ttys I had the default:
	tty00 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
While it has been working okay, I began to question whether or not I
should be running getty. It seems more like "tip" which uses /etc/
remote entries to set the baud rate, etc.

Is "tty01" correct for "com1"? What should I put for the command?
There must be some way to open a "raw" data connection without involving
login. TIA
