Subject: Telnet login takes minutes, FTP takes infinity?

Hi,
Since recently it takes minutes for the telnet prompt to appear on my home
NetBSD gateway, which runs 1.5. The login and the telnet-session go normally
after that. It used to appear immediately. I tried with both SecureCRT and
the standard Win2k client. CuteFTP and the standard FTP client show the same
signs. CuteFTP says "Socket connected. Waiting for welcome message" and then
times out. "ftp" says:

C:\>ftp nodeXXXX.a2000.nl
Connected to nodeXXXX.a2000.nl.
Connection closed by remote host. <== this after a minute or so!

Our power-supply has been pretty flaky last week, so it went down
"uncleanly" (?) a couple of times. Could that be the cause? The only thing I
can remember changing is bringing down Socks5, but that shouldn't make a
difference. What could be going on here?

Greets,
Wouter
