Sorry for the subject line, but it points to the troubleshooting that 
I wasn't doing.  Start with the simple stuff.  The problem I was 
having was I wasn't getting my NetBSD to route for my G4 running Mac 
OS (9.1).  I brought out some frustration in myself as I attempt to 
get this up since I'm using PPPoE for my DSL connection and I didn't 
know if that was cooperating with NetBSD since I used the RP-PPPoE 
client.  Turns out that wasn't my problem it was much simpler and 
relates to my plan for the final setup.

My problem was very simple, in the TCP/IP control panel on my G4 I 
had the router address set for the box that will eventually be the 
firewall/router instead of the address of the box I'm actually using 
for the moment.  The relevant addresses:
192.168.1.2 for The Beast (G4)
192.168.1.3 for Once The King (NetBSD on a Q800)
192.168.1.1 will be Guardian
I had the G4 using the routing address of 192.168.1.1 instead of 
192.168.1.3.  The KISS method in all its glory rose up and bit me 
there. LOL

An aside to this work is that I had the wrong address for OnceTheKing 
in its hosts file for an additional measure.
