Are your questions about FreeBSD or NetBSD ? If it's FreeBSD then you'd
better ask in a FreeBSD mailing list :)

about 3: no libsocket in NetBSD, this is part of libc. Sources are available
from the ftp.netbsd.org ftp server, in e.g NetBSD-1.5.1/sources.
