What model of Promise ?
The ones based on their original Ultra/100 chip (not the Ultra/100TX2) will
work, although you can't use the BIOS RAID feature (but Raidframe does a
good job for this).

I don't know for the adaptec but the promise uses software RAID, so it's
not better than regular IDE adapters+ raidframe.
