Probably has nothing to do with sup, but instead your name service.

Can you ping anya, from anya?

I think 1.5 added /etc/nsswitch.conf -- see nsswitch.conf(5).  You can
check that your host is in DNS, or /etc/hosts, or NIS, or whatever
name service you're using.
