Oh, it will work alright.... for a while. Until you happen to try and
use one of the cylinder groups that has been chopped off. Then, if
you are lucky, the machine will panic immediately. If you are unlucky
the data you put into that last 1Gig will quietly get stomped on and
you will not know until you try to access it.
Shrinking a partition with a tool that does not understand the file
system on the partition will result in the same lossage.
