mount -a did trick, thanks. Fiddled around with a kernel config file
and seem to have built a kernel successfully.

Edited /etc/defaults/rc.conf (you are supposed to do that, aren't
you?) and now I periodically get the message:

dhclient: send_packet: Network is down

The dhclient seems to work.... I have an Internet connection, at
least. I can ping other sites.

Oh yeah, the above error message was there before I built the new
kernel, but after I started DHCP via rc.conf.

Have I overlooked something again?

  Thanks again,
   Dave Chapman
