=46WIW I get exactly the same symptoms trying to use Attachmate's
"Keaterm" VTxxx terminal emulator (version 5.something) to login to
both NetBSD 1.4.1 & 1.4.2. But if I login to one of our other Unixen
first (Digital Unix 4.0D, Ultrix 4.4, HPUX 10.20, Solaris 2.6, various
Linuxen) I have no problem, and I can then *telnet* (I never use
rlogin) on to the NetBSD boxes.

However, I have found that the very wonderful freeware VT100 emulator
Terraterm for Win32 has no problem logging into NetBSD directly. I
find this very amusing (compared to the inability of the expensive
Keaterm to do the same thing), and resort to using Terraterm for
preference a *lot* (with the added advantage that Terraterm starts up
in about 0.5 seconds flat, compared with Keaterm's 10 seconds
minimum). =20

I played around a lot with Keaterm's extensive options for fiddling
with line discipline in various ways, but so far without success.

I'm most interested in Manuel Bouyer's suggestion of starting telnetd
with the '-k' option, and will try it. =20

Why should NetBSD's telnetd need tweaking in this way, where other
Unixen don't ?
