Yes, I am using such a thing right now (in a laptop). I needed
Option "noacell" in the XF86Config to get it to display almost
anything other than black on black (it was clearly mostly working,
and I could even xsetroot, which worked, without that, but it was
also completely unusable - tracking windows was by watching the
cursor change shape as it moved over the invisible borders...)
