Yes, ISO-8859-1 is what I use :)
The display itself supports it; but some applications don't. You can add
support for the iso-8859-1 charset by installing the locale.tgz set from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/i386/french-1.4/
(works also for 1.5 !)
