I ran dhclient correctly as follows:

dhclient ex0
     ifconfig:SIOCAIFADDR: file exists
Listening on BPF/ex0/00:10:4b:d2:b9:b4
Sending on   BPF/ex0/  same as above
Sending on   Socket/fallback/fallback-net
DHCPDISCOVER on ex0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 7
can't connect to sysconf socket: No such file or directory
