Looks like the device it's working on isn't a serial device. What device did
you give, and what parameters ?

Can you reach it with IP addr ?

It's a resolver problem. What do you have in /etc/resolv.conf ?
I don't know if kppp is supposed to set it up by itself or not (xIsp
does).
