Hm.  It sounded to me as if you were saying that the default states
favored more efficient settings (at least the default for your
system)---so changing them would result in poorer performance.  If so, a
driver update would be preferable as a solution.  (^&

I checked my BIOS settings, and saw nothing that looked like the settings
that you referred to.

There were options about peripherals (serial/parallel), booting
priorities, and other fun things.  But nothing about PCI options that I
could see.  (Of course, I _have_ been known to utterly miss that which is
right in front of me...)

You've been a good source of information, but unfortunately (as far as I
can see) I cannot readily apply the things that you said, or else I have
simply missed the portions of BIOS involved.
