Try doing "cvs login", then give "anoncvs" as the password. After this is
finished, you should be able to connect (unless the problem is with a
firewall somewhere on your network).

BTW, unless you already have content in your pkgsrc directory (including
the CVS subdirectories), you should do a "cvs checkout pkgsrc" rather than
"cvs update".
