Looks like I just had a lovely encounter with fdisk and now my NetBSD is

not booting.... possibly the disk is trashed. If anyone got a clue,
please
help me.

Anyway, I have a 6gig HD partitioned as follows:

Partition 0: 2000Meg Fat32 with Win98 installed
Partition 1: 1400Meg Fat32 Empty
Partition 2: 1400Meg FFS with NetBSD installed
Partition 3: 1200Meg Fat32 Empty

So I got a new 4Gig HD and copied the whole win98 stuff over and
wanted to use Partition 1 and 3 for NetBSD. The first thing I wanted
to do is change their ID to NetBSD with fdisk.

I ran fdisk -u:

Do you want to change our idea of what BIOS thinks? [n]n
...
sysid 11 (Primary DOS with ... )
Do you want to change it? [n]n

And I said yes to change Partition 1 and 3 and basically changed
their sysid and commited the changes.

Rebooted, didn't start, paniced, booted floppy, couldn't mount any of
the
/dev/wd0a through /dev/wd0e devices.

Before /dev/wd0a is my root, and /dev/wd0e is my /usr.

fdisk uses /dev/rwd0d.

Anyways, I am pretty confused now as to which devices is which.
I just realize that I don't even know which /dev/???? points to partion
0,
partion 1, and etc.

Well, if this whole thing is trashed, I think I am going to switch to
Linux as
I have to redo everything cuz I didn't backup my stuff. IMHO, Linux's
fdisk
partition utilities is a LOT better. However, if someone can help me
out
with my NetBSD and point me to somewhere to learn about all its art of
partitioning disks and stuff, that'd save me a lot of time.

thanks,

joel
