Oh, not helpful enough?  OK, look up the rules in /usr/share/mk/bsd.lib.mk
for ``.c.so'' (or ``.''whatever``.so''), ``lib${LIB}_pic.a'' and 
``lib${LIB}.so.${SHLIB_MAJOR}.${SHLIB_MINOR}''.
These give you an idea of the steps involved.
