This is somewhat off topic, but it's for a NetBSD man page...

I want to create a string:  [n]> file  that is indented..
I tried:  .D1 Bq n Ns > file  which produces: [n> file]

I've also tried a number of other things.. like:
.D1
.Bq n
.Ns > file

Which produces the correct string, but does not indent it..  I've fiddled with
.Xo and .Xc.. but nothing seems to work.. what am I missing here?

(yes.. I realize I can type [n], but I want to learn why this isn't working..)
