Add 'debug debug debug debug' to your /etc/ppp/options file (yes, 4 times).
Then add a line
daemon.* 					/var/log/ppp.debug
to your /etc/syslog.conf file; then touch /var/log/ppp.debug and restart
syslogd.
You should get usefull informantions in /var/log/ppp.debug
