I think both of these are historic .... I don't think either console
driver has been documented that well.

Well, my opinion, for what it's worth ...

pccons (pc) has been reputed to be a bit faster, and is definately smaller.

pcvt (vt) gets you virtual consoles, and vt100 emulation (instead
of that whatever-the-hell-doesn't-match-any-terminal-on-the-known-planet
emulation you get from pccons)..  I think it's vastly superior,
but to each his own :-)
