This is a guess, but I've seen machines lock up like this when the com ports
are hosed in some way (netbsd detects them wrong, whatever) and ttyflags hangs
trying to set them.

Try disabling everything you can possibly disable (com, lpt, etc) and see if
you can get it to boot.
