Yes and Yes.

Also, it bears mentioning that behavior is fine now (netbsd box is
fine and all hosts ok when master is unplugged/etc).  Nothing changed, 
except that the freebsd master server got a new ethernet card (the
last one broke in a very insidious fashion... though still probably
not relevant).

So I'm not satisfied by such a problem which "seems ok now", but I've
got more important things to do than seek out problems that don't
appear to exist ;-).

Thanks for your response--I'll post again if I reproduce and/or solve the
problem...
