It's not a NetBSD quirk this is how BSD has always handled it. The
exportfs command is a SVR5'ism. The "hupping" of deamons is infact
common with many other systems daemons to get them to up date
themes;ves from there system file. The first that comes to mind is
named, then there is inetd, syslogd, amd. This is usually the proecure
performed for the same daamons on SVR5 based machines if anything the
exportfs command is an annomaly that has only served to confuse.
