I'm working on porting a program, and a strange thing happens when I run it.. 
this seems to happen to a few other programs too, so I'm just wondering what
exactly causes this behavior in ps.

15808 ??  S<     0:00.70 (daemon)
 7549 p3  I+     0:00.53 (pine)

Why do they show up with ()'s around them?  Is there something I can do to make
it stop?  I didn't see anything in the ps man page about this.
