After coming up with 2 spare 486's, one 386, and my old favorite Sun 3/50,
I decided to continue my distributed processing work under NetBSD. I had
no trouble installing NetBSD 1.2 from the binaries on my Sun3 via the
network (and one of the 486's as a Linux box at the time) to a local SCSI
disk. Now came time to install NetBSD 1.2 via floppies and ftp (from the
old Sun3) on the x86's. The first machine (a 386sx with a NE2000, 170MB
IDE disk and an ISA bus) went without incident except for the following:
soft errors all OVER fd0a; Not a problem I read through the archives of
this list and figured "Okay maybe I need a new floppy and drive for the
next install." Well I used a new floppy drive and a new floppy (new...
right out of the static bag): same thing on the next machine: a Cyrix
486DLC with 420MB IDE, ISA bus. But they were just soft errors (and
numerous at that) so I continued. I noted to myself to try ANOTHER
new floppy disk from another package/manufacturer as well as a PROVEN
floppy disk drive. Well now I am trying (and have been for the past 2
days) to install on the last machine: a 486DX2 w/ 1Gig SCSI, ADAPTEC
1540CF, ISA bus. I get the soft errors again and worse hard errors
reading and writing to fd0a. Then the installation thinks it would be
funny to panic and reboots right after a long string of soft errors
(during the tar --one-file-system -cf . | (cd /mnt... line in the install
script).

Any ideas? Am I blazingly stupid? Two other questions: has anyone used
PVM under NetBSD? Has anyone used MacLayers under NetBSD?

Thanks in advance!
