Hello. I'd like to install NetBSD 1.2 on my system, to try to do some work at
home, but I can't get any further than typing "loadbsd -b netbsd" in the
installation process. I already set up the root, usr and swap partitions as
explained in the INSTALLATION file, wrote the installation filesystem to the
swap partition using xstreamtodev (no problems), but when it gets to start
netbsd the computer immediately hangs. I also tried a cold reboot, without
startup sequence, issuing setpatch, assigning vital directories and immediately
starting netbsd, with the same result. This is my setup: A4000/040 (stock
processor), 2Mb chip + 16Mb fast on the motherboard, a 1620Mb and a 420Mb conner
EIDE drive hooked to the internal IDE interface, CyberVision64 4Mb, Emplant
Deluxe with 586 and macpro modules, Syquest SQ327 SCSI drive hooked to the
Emplant SCSI port, Kickstart and Workbench 3.1. The Syquest drive works without
a hitch, albeit slowly, both on the Amiga and the Mac emulation. I also tried,
to no avail, to start NetBSD with the Syquest switched off, or with no cartridge
inserted, to no avail. I downloaded again the generic kernel and loadbsd, to
make sure they were not corrupted, and they were not. Is there any option I
should try to use when starting loadbsd? A specific kernel or loadbsd version
I should try? Any hint about what's happening?
