I've found lots of documentation for the problem of a machine that attempts to boot off the
hard disk and returns 'Read Error', but I haven't been able to solve the problem on my machine.

Here's the setup and what i've tried...

It's a P-100 with an Adaptec 2940UW and a Maxtor-Panther P17S

The dmesg output is 1778 19 87 (C/H/S) when I boot off the floppies
(regardless of the >1 Gig translation setting on the 2940)
The install works okay, including copy_kernel, but results in the 'Read Error' message at boot time.

pfdisk reports the geometry as 182 255 63 (C/H/S)
but the install fails when I do the copy_kernel because the fsck_ffs is hitting an invalid block
(too high a value I believe)

The machine has a Phoenix BIOS, as I've noted in many other people's messages, but the best
answer Icould find in the mailing-lists was to try the install with pfdisk's geometry instead
of the dmesg values.

Anyone have another suggestion?
Thanks in advance...
