There's an entry in the FAQ (2.7.3c) that talks about a problem that
I'm having. I have a 486DX-40 running 1.2 with an Adaptec 1522 scsi card
and a 3c509 ethernet card. When I try to ping my other machine, I won't
see anything for about 30 seconds, at which time I'll get all of the pings
returned. I've run netstat on the other machine to see that all the packets
come in at once there, so I'm assuming it's not a problem with the second
machine. I also get a 'stray interrupt 7' message during bootup just after
the network is started.

The FAQ entry discusses the problem with some video cards using IRQ
2, and the ethernet card was originally set on IRQ 9. I've changed the IRQ
on the ethernet card with no improvement. I was going to try the Scotch-tape-
over-IRQ-2 trick on the video card, but the card doesn't seem to have a
contact for IRQ 2, at least if I'm reading the diagram I got from the
comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware FAQ correctly.

Has anyone experienced this problem or have any idea what the
problem might be? If it helps, there's also an Adaptec 1542 in the machine
that I haven't taken out yet. The two SCSI cards are on different IRQs,
of course.
