actually, i'm more inclined to believe that the OSF/1 version of cksum
is broken.

If i recall correctly, cksum was changed between the berkeley Net/2
release and Lite, because the Net/2 version had a bug that would cause
it to miscalculate the checksum.  OSF/1 is probably using the old
version.
