I'm trying to build a kernel using one of the config files , SPARC_SCSI3, in the sys/arch/sparc/conf
directory, but make fails once it trys to build the library symbol table. I get the
error,
   

     ranlib libkern_p.a
     ranlib: libkern_p.a inappropriate file type or format
     error
     stop

Can anybody tell me how to fix problem? It happened for 3 or 4 other libraries as well.
I have not modified any files since untarring the sources.
