   Hi folks,

I have a bunch of questions but first let me describe my hardware...

   ###
   486DX2 - 66
   8 Megs RAM (4 megs 70-80ns in 30pin slots)(4 megs 60ns in 72pin slot)
   Sound Blaster 16
WesternDigital (Pre SMC) wd8013(?) ethernet (16 bit card)
Orchid Prodesigner IIs SVGA video (1 Meg) (pretty old)
Buslogic 445C LB SCSI (very new)
IDE LB with onboard com ports (166blahblah) (yesterday new)

Maxtor 7344(I think) and Maxtor 7212(sounds about right) attached to
     the IDE unterface.

Sony CDU-76S attached to the 445C
   QIC-150 attached to the 445C
   ###

I purchased and installed a Buslogic 445C and things appear ok.
   I also installed a Sony 76S cdrom (coming question) and a QIC-150
   tape drive (still another question).

   1. Are there any concerns I should have about the 445C vs. the 445S? Is
      there any difference?

   2. I grabbed the latest version of Workman (audio cdplayer) and compiled
with -D__NetBSD__ -DSOUNDBLASTER -D__FreeBSD__ ... etc. It is able
to read the track information but I get a message...

cd0: (bt0:0,3,0) invalid command (or something like that)...

Its funny, I can get it to eject the disk and show the tracks, but
it will not play the disk. Also, every time I try something it
gives me that same error message.

   3. I was trying to back up my DOS partition last night using tar...

      tar fzcv /dev/st0 /dos

It got most of the way through and the tape drive just stopped, rewound,
and I got console messages like the following...

      st0: (bt0:0,1,0) device not ready

Could the tape have reached the end and tar didn't catch it? (I
don't see how when my DOS partition is 150M at the most). Anyone
else have any problems like this?

Also this process appears to eat a whole lot of clock cycles. My
machine practically ground to a halt while the tar was running? Why
is this? My IDE drives are on a local bus adapter, and so is the
tape drive. You would think that the OS shouldn't have to work
vary hard to transfer the data?

If your are kind enough to reply please use the following address. My
company has changed ISP and the routing isn't set up yet for our domain
   name...

Thanks all. Keep up the good fight,

   Brad
