Help!!
I've been pulling my hair out for several weeks now trying to solve the
mysteries of why I'm having problems communicating between NetBSD-1.0 and a
Supra 28.8 Modem. Here's what I know so far:
* I have two NetBSD-1.0 machines. One has a Quicktel Internal modem
the other has an external Supra 28.8.
* I also have two IDE/IO Controllers. One with 16450 ports, the other
with 16550 ports. The Quicktel modem is 16550 also.
* First off both modems are setup in harware handshake mode, and I've
tried several serial cables with the Supra.
* Recently, I tried SLIP through the Supra w/ 16450 to download the
"current" tar_files. I appears that the network locks after about
20 min. I surmise this because Ethernet comm to this machine is
interfered with (very slow) and the RD light on the modem blinks
once in awhile (leading me to believe the ftpd on the other end is
saying "Well?") I need to reboot the machine to clear this. Various
kills do not work. I reconfigured IP addresses and system names, and
started SLIP on the other machine with the Quicktel. So far it's
doing great (Much further than the Supra.)
* Much as I try and try, I connot get UUCP to communicate with the
Supra connected to a 16550 port. It has to be a 16450 port. The
symptoms I see with trying UUCP + 16550 + Supra are lots of bad
packets until the com.c driver finally crahes. (bad packets reported
in Debug from uucico) I know this sounds a lot like a flow control
problem, but when I change the IDE/IO board to the 16450 ports, UUCP
works a ton better. Go figure.
* This situation seems to be CPU independent. While working on this, I
have also tried moving entire File Systems (IDE HD's) between
machines. No effect.
Please forgive me for being wordy, I just want to make sure I paint a complete
picture. I've also included complete descriptions of both systems, and the
info dump from the Supra Modem. Any ideas are enthusiastically welcome,
especially since I've run out. :-) Thanks in Advance for any help you can
offer.
