Netbsd-docs is not a good place to look for answers to this problem. I
think there is a better chance if you ask your question on
current-users@NetBSD.org.
The output you see while the kernel determines the hardware of the
machine would probably be helpful. If this is not possible (since you
cannot run 'dmesg' without a working harddisk) you could at least
provide the data your FreeBSD installation displays.
