 This has been reverted and sysinst behaves for me now.  I am not sure
 what happened here but I suspect an interaction between my changes and
 other ones that were merged but not in my tree.  I did test sysinst
 prior to the commit but not after I updated to merge in the other
 changes.  Mea Culpa.
