 actually, i've started looking at this.  i did upgrade mpfr recently
 and started looking at what new gmp needs.

 hmmm, it changed some what, but i'm not sure how.  eg, it does:
 
 -       if grep 'SUNW,UltraSPARC-T5' $dummy >/dev/null; then
 +       if egrep '(SUNW|ORCL),(Ultra)?SPARC-T5' $dummy >/dev/null; then
 
 for a bunch of cases.  is that sufficient for you?
