 yes with today's sources the X server with modesetting driver manages to 
 start - good
 
 Modesetting still has issues, though.
 
 - when the mouse pointer crosses a window border it sometime shows 
 artifacts.
 
 - more serious though is the the kdm greet screen still shows the 
 described artifacts and the username/password fields are not updated 
 correctly (blind typing required).
 
 on the plus side once kde is running the only issue I have sees are the 
 mouse pointer artifacts.
 
 So far this is the best result but issues remain.
