 Unfortunately, no:
 
 I use tcsh, and while csh.{cshrc,login} have historically grown=20
 lengthy, I don't set tabs anywhere.
 
 And an xterm started from a newly created unprivileged account using=20
 /bin/sh shows the exact same problem.
