Are you creating a window that wide (xterm -geom ...) or are you
stretching a "normal" (80 column) window after it is created?
Actually forget that, I doubt that's (directly) the problem either.
Next possibility, are you displaying directly into the xterm
from an application running on the same system (ie: create the
xterm then in it immediately (ignoring window resizing here)
run sdiff (or whatever), or are you connecting elsewhere and
displaying to it via ssh or similar?
Where I detected the problem, I was on an 80 column window,
ssh to another system, then stretched the window wider (and
then used the xen console command to attach to a DomU initially
for testing the -current system - but that's not relevant as
the same issue was reproduced after that was shut down).
