I've redone the very same dockerized build, but in a deeper directory.
It failed. (No -P sopplied.) So indeed the sun2 build seems to break
then the sources (and/or $DESTDIR) are located in a "too long"
directory name. (I couldn't observe this behavior on some other
builds I tried.)
